John Peel Day
It's almost exactly a year to this day that I learnt of John Peel's untimely passing. Check the bbc radio one site for info on how people are remembering him all over the world.
John Peel was my DJ hero - as he was for so many artists, bands and musicians and punters. Reflecting back on things now I remember how I once said to a friend, 'What happens when John Peel dies?' - I honestly couldn't think of how music would be the same without him, someone who would play just brilliant music without prejudice. I'll also never forget the fact that John played virtually every single and album I produced - he was the first to ever play my music on Radio (Thick Soup was debuted on the John Peel show in 1997 and was released on Cristian Vogel's Mosquito imprint months later).
After my first album 'Charm Hostel' John Peel invited me to do a Peel Session - this was one of my proudest musical moments, I couldn't believe it at the time, it really was an honour. He inspired so many people and remains very much in my thoughts a year on.
